Start Your Day in God’s Presence
How did you start your day? How you spend the first 30 minutes of a day often determines how productive you will be.
If you start it by sleeping in, watching YouTube, and eating last night’s leftover pizza for breakfast – as amazing as that sounds – you’ve already started on the wrong foot and productivity is going to be hard work. It’s the same when it comes to talking to anyone about Jesus.
If you start well, you’re setting yourself up for success.
In the same way it’s best to start your day with a good healthy breakfast, exercise and a shower – prayer is the best start to life on mission. Here are 3 ways you can kick start life on mission with prayer:
1. Start the day in God’s presence
Start your day by pursuing God’s presence. You can do this through worship, reading the Bible, and positioning yourself to be filled with the Holy Spirit. If you can’t fit all these activities into your morning, try spreading them throughout the week. It can be as simple as saying to God “I’m here, I love you. How do you want to use me today?” If this is a new habit for you, add a reminder to your phone to help you remember.
2. Pray for whoever God puts on your heart
Since God partners with us, He will place people on your heart to pray for. It could be people you’ve meet throughout your day, or it could be close friends who you’ve had on your heart for years. Keep a list of people on your phone to help you stay consistent.
3. Pray throughout the day
The Bible says to pray without ceasing (Read 1 Thessalonians 5:17).
Obviously, that doesn’t mean you have to be on your knees 24/7 with your eyes closed. It does mean having a prayerful awareness of God throughout your day. Think of it as a running conversation between you and the Holy Spirit, praying for the people and situations you come across moment by moment. If praying throughout the day doesn’t come naturally, set reminders on your phone to help you build a habit of checking in with the Holy Spirit.
Challenge yourself to do this for an hour, a few hours and then a day. You’ll be amazed at what happens.
